The mission statement of the Pharmacy Department is: 'to provide optimal pharmaceutical services to patients requiring drug therapy, to encourage continuous improvement in the quality of pharmaceutical care, and to undertake education and research activities in relation to the quality use of medicines'

The Department has established links with the School of Pharmacy, University of Queensland, and participates extensively in teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students. Conjoint hospital/university teacher practitioner appointments coordinate teaching programs and departmental education activities.
